The 2018 Discovery Festival at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is showcasing the University’s strengths in discovery and innovation from 13 to 16 March. Dr Joseph Lee Chung-tak will officiate at the opening ceremony on 14 March and deliver a speech, to be followed by the presentation of the awards for teaching excellence and other areas.
This year’s Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) will go to two outstanding teachers who have contributed significantly to raising the quality of teaching.
One of the awardees emphasises the link between textbook knowledge and industrial problems, and successfully trains up students with multidimensional and multidisciplinary strengths that enable them to adapt well within a variety of workplaces. The other awardee bridges the gap between art and science, and successfully motivates many art students to implement creative technologies for their art work.
In addition to the opening ceremony, the Learning & Discovery @CityU is displaying CityU projects that demonstrate how students have applied technology to improving society.
Key projects include:
• Aid for Visually Impaired Bowlers: a system that helps visually impaired bowler during practice.
• SightKeeper: a mobile app that develops good habits for using smart phones among young children.
• Twind Turbine: a vertical-axis wind turbine with better efficiency applying to railway or urban areas.
• HEYCOINS: a machine collecting coins and converting them into digital currency
You are welcome to visit the exhibition and interview the awardees of TEA and students.
