Creative media students of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have transformed data they collected in an expedition to the Coral Triangle in the western Pacific into 17 new media artworks, which present some of the complex relationships between humans and nature. The artworks will be featured in an exhibition titled ‘Deep Focus’.
The students scuba-dived the rich coral reefs of Sipidan, Malaysia and trekked the endangered disappearing islands in the remote western Solomon Islands in late February to explore caves, coral reefs and wrecks, tag turtles in the ocean, and paddle through dark mangrove forests.
The artworks will be presented in different formats, including animations, video installations, interactive shadow installations and earthwork sculpture. Reporters are welcome to join the media tour during which the students will talk about their experience during the expedition and the process in creating the artworks.
