Dr Raymond Lam Hiu-wai, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, has developed a new type of intelligent electrode in the form of tight-fitting clothing that remotely monitors and records the heart conditions of patients. This electrode will be able to transmit data to the patient’s home computer and servers at hospitals for medical professionals to access and interpret. The time for diagnosis and referrals to other units will be shortened.

The new technology that Dr Lam will introduce at the media briefing is particularly useful for monitoring elderly people suffering from coronary heart disease who live alone.
