City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Alstom Holdings (Alstom), a global leader in power generation, power transmission and rail infrastructure, on 7 March. The MOU establishes a long-term strategic alliance for Advanced Open Systems for Smart Cities in areas including energy and transport, education and training, and innovation. The framework agreement will be signed by Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU, and Dr Ronan Stéphan, Chief Innovation Officer at Alstom.
 
The Advanced Open Systems for Smart Cities will establish a Community Energy Management System, saving energy consumption at all levels. The two parties will jointly apply for funding from the Hong Kong Government’s Innovation and Technology Fund and other government agencies. The research results will be implemented in the University, and will serve as a model for government organisations and commercial buildings in Hong Kong.
