Press Conference
Nuclear safety arouses concern as Hong Kong is so close to the Pearl River Delta area where the current Daya Bay nuclear power plant will be joined by dozens of newly built reactors over the next decade.
In response to the situation, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) offers academic programmes on nuclear and risk engineering to train professionals in the field and help improve nuclear safety for the area. In the forthcoming press briefing, CityU will explain those programmes, suggest measures to strengthen nuclear safety, discuss the need to establish an independent body on nuclear safety, and offer some advice on energy mix.
The press briefing will be followed by a workshop titled “The Latest Development in Nuclear Safety and Nuclear Industry”, organised by CityU College of Science and Engineering in collaboration with the Hong Kong Nuclear Society and the Nuclear Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. A number of nuclear experts will discuss nuclear safety regulations, achievements and challenges in nuclear reactor safety in the US, evaluation of the radiation in the emergency planning zone, and advancements in nuclear safety and nuclear industry in China.
