World renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the designer of the new Creative Media Centre at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), will be sharing his insights into the art of architecture in a talk entitled “Breaking Ground”. This will be the second Distinguished Lecture of CityU in 2006.

Born in Poland, Mr Libeskind spent his youth studying music, first in Israel and then in New York. He later left music to study architecture, obtaining his bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees in architecture in the UK and the US in the early 1970s.

Since then, Mr Libeskind has excelled with many of his architectural masterpieces. His portfolio includes a diverse range of projects around the world, from museums and concert halls to universities and residential buildings. In 2003, he won the competition with his master site plan for the new World Trade Centre in New York, and was subsequently appointed as the main architect.

Mr Libeskind is well known for introducing a new critical discourse into architecture and for his multidisciplinary approach. He is now working on a number of projects and designs, and he frequently gives lectures at universities and colleges.
