City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has developed a web-based multimedia Putonghua self-learning course for primary and secondary school students. The course is the direct application of the ground-breaking computer-aided Putonghua self-learning software which uses tone graph technology to enhance a learner’s Putonghua pronunciation.

The new course has been devised for primary and secondary school students with the full support of CityU’s Teaching Development Grant and the Education and Manpower Bureau.

Ms Sze Mei, a lecturer in the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics who developed the software and the course, will introduce and demonstrate key features of the software during the media session. Reporters will be invited to test the accuracy of their tones using the new technology.
