Together with Deans, Heads of academic and administrative units, staff and student representatives, about 500 members of the CityUHK community gathered to witness the solemn raising of the national, regional and University flags.
The CityUHK Flag-raising Team, made up of CityUHK students, raised the national flag of the People’s Republic of China, the regional flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the University flag, with student representatives serving as masters of ceremonies. The dignified ceremony brought the CityUHK community together to celebrate National Day, giving everyone a deeply felt sense of the close ties between Hong Kong and the nation.
Professor Ngai said that seeing the national flag raised on the CityUHK campus reminded him of his experience leading the CityUHK Flag-raising Team on the “Salute to the National Flag” delegation to Beijing last month. He noted that the same five-star red flag flies over both Beijing and Hong Kong, a powerful reflection of the deep bonds and shared purpose of compatriots in the two places, who are working hand in hand towards the common goal of promoting the nation’s prosperity.
CityUHK will continue to leverage its unique strengths in internationalised education, cutting-edge research and innovation, actively responding to and integrating into the broader context of national development. The University is committed to nurturing outstanding talent with a strong sense of national identity, a global vision and social responsibility, serving society through breakthrough research, and contributing to Hong Kong’s long-term prosperity and stability as well as the nation’s high-quality development.
