CityUHK and Civil Service Bureau jointly host Government Career Fair 2026 to help students explore public sector pathways

The Career and Leadership Centre of the Student Development Services (SDS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) collaborated with the Civil Service Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to host the “Government Career Fair 2026” on 15 September. Bringing together around 30 government bureaux and departments showcasing around 60 civil service grades, the Fair served as a one-stop platform for CityUHK students to explore diverse career pathways and opportunities in the public sector.

Building on the success of previous fair, this year's event continued to receive an overwhelming response from students across various disciplines and academic levels.

During her speech, Mrs Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan, Secretary for the Civil Service of the HKSAR Government, highlighted university students’ passion, creativity, and drive are qualities that are vital to the advancement and continued development of Hong Kong. The government started to recruit penultimate year university students since 2023 to provide younger generation with more opportunities and earlier career clarity.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) of CityUHK, highlighted that public service is more than a career; it is a commitment to driving positive change, shaping policy, and serving our community. He stated that CityUHK shares the Government's commitment to nurturing young talent dedicated to serving Hong Kong.

“Beyond academic excellence, we actively collaborate with government departments throughout the year to offer career talks, training opportunities, and high-impact initiatives such as the Administrative Service Internship Programme, the Summer Internship Programme, and the Police Mentorship Programme,” he said.

Accompanied by Professor Alex Wong Chun-yuen, Dean of Students, Professor Dannii Yeung Yuen-lan, Associate Provost (Student Life), and Professor Toh Kian Lam, Director of SDS, Mrs Yeung visited the recruitment booths, interacted with CityUHK students to learn about their career aspirations, and encouraged them to join the civil service team and shape a brighter future together.

The Fair provided opportunities for students to engage directly with current civil servants, with designated recruiting units offering on-site interviews and written tests. In addition, five specialised career talks were organised to offer students deeper insights into the application procedures and career progression pathways within the Government.

CityUHK encourages students to make full use of campus resources and take meaningful steps towards achieving their professional aspirations. The Career and Leadership Centre of the SDS remains dedicated to organising employment guidance and recruitment activities to support students' career planning and professional development.
