CityUHK hosts Beijing Alumni Dinner and Alumni Chapter Installation Ceremony, bringing alumni together to build a shared future
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted the Beijing Alumni Dinner and Alumni Chapter Installation Ceremony in Beijing on 27 June, bringing together some 260 alumni and University representatives to reconnect and strengthen ties. The event not only deepened connections between alumni and their alma mater, but also witnessed the inauguration of the new Executive Committee of the Beijing Alumni Chapter, demonstrating alumni’s continued support for CityUHK’s development.
Professor Chun-Sing Lee, Acting President of CityUHK, expressed his sincere gratitude to alumni for their longstanding care and steadfast support for the University, and shared the University’s latest developments. He highlighted CityUHK’s excellence through two “I”s - “International” and “Innovation” — emphasising CityUHK’s commitment to advancing teaching and research while expanding its global impact.
Professor Lee also shared CityUHK’s outstanding performance in several internationally recognised rankings in recent years. CityUHK has been named the "Most International University" in the World by Times Higher Education (THE) for three consecutive years. The University also rose to 47th worldwide in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings 2026–2027, ranked 52nd globally in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2027, and placed 67th globally and 2nd in Hong Kong in Nature Index’s “2026 Research Leaders: Leading Institutions” rankings. In addition, the University also topped Hong Kong institutions for the tenth straight year in the latest ranking of global universities with the most US patents granted. Professor Lee took the opportunity to warmly invite alumni to return to their alma mater and visit the newly opened Hu Fa Kuang Sports Centre, which houses the largest single-level university sports hall in Hong Kong.
The evening also featured the inauguration of the 6th Executive Committee of the Beijing Alumni Chapter, with its New Chairman, Mr Tang Lin, leading the new Executive Committee members in formally assuming office. During the ceremony, Mr Tang received the Chapter seal from Professor Lee and Mr Li Renxing, former Chairman of the Beijing Alumni Chapter, symbolising a smooth leadership transition and the continuation of the Chapter’s mission to unite alumni and support the University’s development. Professor Lee also expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Executive Committee members and commended their contributions over the years.
The dinner featured a vibrant programme, including traditional Chinese performing arts such as acrobatics, Peking opera, as well as a choral performance by Beijing alumni. The warm and lively performances created lasting and memorable moments for the attendees.
