CityUHK holds flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held a flag-raising ceremony at the University Circle on 1 July to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The ceremony was officiated by Professor Chung Shui-ming, GBS, JP, Pro-Chancellor of CityUHK, and Professor the Honourable Michael Ngai, Council Chairman of CityUHK.

CityUHK members attending the ceremony included Mr David Ho Chi-hoo, BBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of the Council; Mr Charles Chin Ying-on, Treasurer; Council members Mr Gary Lock Wai-tak, Mr Robert Lui Chi-wang, Mr Justin Wong Tak-ho, Mr Rex Wong Siu-han, JP, Dr Steve Chuang Tzu-hsiung, JP, Ms Rita Pang Yat-sum, Professor Ray Cheung Chak-chung and Miss Lan Yawei; Mr Gabriel Ho Kai-pong, Chairman of the Convocation; Court members Professor Gary Cheng Faat-ting, Professor Albert Ip Yuk-keung, and Mr Joseph Tse Lap-bun; Mr Ronald Chu, General Counsel & Secretary to Council; and members of the CityUHK Foundation Board of Governors Mr Winfred Chan Hon-pun, Ms Cecilia Chu and Professor Tinly Wong Tin-chee.

Also among the attendees were members of the University’s senior management, including Professor Chun-Sing Lee, Acting President; Professor Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise); Professor Li Wen Jung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy); Professor Kenneth Leung Mei-yee, Vice-President (Research); Professor Chan Chi-ho, Vice-President (Community Engagement); amd Miss Maggie Chau, Vice-President (Administration). They were joined by approximately 200 staff and student representatives from the CityUHK community, who all gathered to extend their best wishes for the continued prosperity and stability of the HKSAR.

The ceremony was conducted by a flag-raising team of CityUHK students, with student representatives serving as masters of ceremonies, allowing the CityUHK community to gather and celebrate the important anniversary of HKSAR’s establishment. CityUHK will continue to embrace innovation and a global outlook to align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan. The University will actively integrate into and support national development, fully leveraging the unique advantage — having strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world — to fuel the future of both HKSAR and the country, making greater contributions to HKSAR’s long-term prosperity and national advancement.
