Delegation from Heilongjiang Province visits CityUHK

On 8 June, a delegation from Heilongjiang Province visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). The two sides engaged in thorough discussions focusing on science and technology, educational development, and innovation and enterprise programmes. They are committed to seeking further collaboration opportunities and to contributing to the long-term development of the nation.

The delegation, led by Mr Lan Shaomin, Chairman of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), included: Mr Xu Liren, Secretary-General of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Mr Zhao Zhongchao, Director of the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese, and Foreign Affairs of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Mr Zhan Qiming, Director of the Research Office of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Mr Li Leyu, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Commerce of Heilongjiang Province, and Mr Wang Chao, Director of the General Office of the Economic Committee of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by senior management of CityUHK. The CityUHK representatives were led by Professor the Honourable Michael Ngai, Chairman of the Council of CityUHK. Members of the group also included Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise), Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves, and Professor Kenneth Leung Mei-yee, Vice-President (Research) and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health.

Professor Ngai extended his gratitude to the delegates and emphasised that given Hong Kong’s unique role as an international hub, CityUHK is committed to fostering the exchange of ideas and cooperation between the Chinese Mainland and overseas partners in the fields of science and research, talent development and industry, in alignment with the overall development strategies of the nation and the Hong Kong SAR. Professor Ngai added that this year, CityUHK has more than 14,000 students from the Chinese Mainland, over 300 of whom are from Heilongjiang Province. With the establishment of CityUHK (Dongguan), CityUHK will continue to strengthen its presence in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond. Looking ahead, CityUHK looks forward to exploring more pragmatic cooperation opportunities working with Heilongjiang Province in the aforementioned areas.

Professor Yang provided an overview of CityUHK’s key projects and outstanding achievements in research. This was followed by presentations from Professors Chan and Professor Leung, who respectively outlined the research work of the two State Key Laboratories under their leadership. The delegation then visited the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves to gain a deeper understanding of CityUHK’s progress and achievements in communication science.

The representatives from CityUHK also included Professor Li Lishuai, Associate Vice President (Strategic Research), Professor Johnny Ho Chung-yin, Associate Vice-President (Enterprise), Professor Alfred Ho Tak-kei, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Ching May-bo, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Professor Pan Chin, Chair Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
