Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), recently shared insights into CityUHK’s achievement of becoming the “Most International University in the World” for the second consecutive year. He also discussed the University’s efforts to promote the “Study in Hong Kong” initiative during an interview with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK).

CityUHK has once again been named the “Most International University in the World 2025” in the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, highlighting its outstanding achievements in advancing international education and research collaboration. In the interview, President Boey emphasised that his primary task is to ensure students and faculty have the opportunity to connect with the world, learn from a global perspective and gain international experience.

He highlighted that, through the Distinguished Visiting Professors Scheme, CityUHK has invited over 50 internationally renowned scholars to the University, including 11 from the University of Cambridge, as well as others from the University of Oxford and MIT. CityUHK has also established numerous collaborative partnerships with universities across various countries and regions, including Europe, the Americas, Belt and Road countries, and within Asia.

CityUHK is committed to positioning itself as a "hub for international young talent", said President Boey. He frequently stresses the importance of talent, asserting that a university’s greatest asset is its people. He is committed to recruiting top academic talent globally and helping them realise their full potential.

President Boey noted that Hong Kong universities enjoy a strong international reputation and firmly believed that Hong Kong is an attractive and vibrant place for global talent to study, work and live.

In the interview, he discussed the University’s educational approach, explaining that CityUHK is shifting from a “teaching-centric” model to a “learning-centric” one to better attract students from around the world. He believes this model aligns more closely with the learning style of the new generation, and that students are increasingly drawn to CityUHK’s reputation and unique educational experience.

The Hong Kong SAR Government is committed to positioning Hong Kong as an international hub for post-secondary education and has established the “Study in Hong Kong” brand, in which CityUHK actively participates. Over the past two years, CityUHK has established several new academic institutes and research centres: the CityUHK Academy of Innovation, the Institute of Digital Medicine, the College of Computing, and the Hong Kong Institute of AI for Science. President Boey emphasised that CityUHK aims to transform research outcomes into practical applications through these new institutes and to collaborate with institutions in Belt and Road countries and other regions to support the government’s efforts to further promote the “Study in Hong Kong” brand.
