Yuefei Ruan received her B.Sc. and M.Phil. in environmental sciences at Nankai University in 2011 and 2014, respectively. She obtained her Ph.D. in biology and chemistry and completed her postdoc research at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in 2017 and 2019, respectively, supervised by Prof. Paul Kwan-sing Lam. Then she continued her work at the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health (SKLMEH), CityU as Research Fellow and got promoted to Research Assistant Professor in 2021. In October 2025, she was appointed as Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry at CityU.
Yuefei Ruan's research area lies in environmental analytical chemistry and aquatic ecotoxicology, with a special focus on POPs and their alternatives as contaminants of emerging concern (CECs, or called "new pollutants"). Her current research interests involve advanced identification of CECs in complex matrices; tracing environmental distribution and fate of CECs (esp. cetaceans as bioindicators); and evaluating environmental stress and proposing management of CECs, aiming to deliver actionable science for protecting vulnerable coastal ecosystems. She is an Associate Editor of Marine Environmental Research, and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Environmental Science & Technology Letters.
