CBM Seminar Series – Exploring Cells with Nanoneedles

26 October 2026

The College of Biomedicine was pleased to host Professor Ciro CHIAPPINI, Reader in BioNano Engineering and Associate Dean for Impact at King's College London, as a distinguished speaker for the CBM Seminar Series on 26 October 2026. Professor Chiappini is internationally recognized for his research at the interface of nanotechnology, bioengineering, and cell biology, with significant contributions to advanced therapies, spatial biology, and regenerative medicine.

In his seminar entitled "Exploring Cells with Nanoneedles", Professor CHIAPPINI introduced the emerging field of nanoneedle technology and its potential applications in intracellular delivery and sensing. He explained how nanoneedles can provide minimally invasive access to living cells, enabling the delivery of genetic materials, proteins, and nanoparticles into challenging cell types, including stem and immune cells. He also highlighted their capability to repeatedly sample living cells and tissues without causing significant disruption, opening new possibilities for monitoring disease progression and treatment responses.

The seminar attracted keen interest from faculty members, researchers, and students, and stimulated engaging discussions on the translational potential of nanoneedle technologies in gene therapy, cell engineering, and regenerative medicine. Professor CHIAPPINI's presentation showcased how advances in bio-nano engineering can contribute to the development of next-generation therapeutic strategies and innovative tools for studying living systems.
