CBM Seminar Series – Decellularized Tissue Engineering Hyaline Cartilage Graft for Articular Cartilage Repair and Its Forward Looking Study for Space Medicine

5 October 2026

The College of Biomedicine was honored to host Ir. Professor Dongan WANG, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, as a distinguished speaker for the CBM Seminar Series on 5 October 2026. Professor Wang is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine, with over 200 publications and numerous patents to his name.

In his lecture entitled "Decellularized Tissue Engineering Hyaline Cartilage Graft for Articular Cartilage Repair and Its Forward Looking Study for Space Medicine", Professor Wang presented his group's innovative development of decellularized tissue engineering hyaline cartilage grafts (dLhCG). He highlighted how these grafts achieve effective osteochondral defect healing and complete integration with native cartilage in large animal models, with investigative clinical trials in China demonstrating positive outcomes. Importantly, he also shared insights into forward looking space experiments designed with dLhCG, underscoring the potential applications of tissue engineering in future space medicine.

The seminar stimulated lively discussion among faculty, researchers, and students, emphasizing the groundbreaking impact of engineered cartilage grafts in advancing musculoskeletal repair and regenerative medicine. Professor Wang's lecture showcased how integrating bioengineering innovation with translational research opens new avenues for clinical application and even space based biomedical exploration.
