CBM Welcomes New Postgraduate Students at Mid-Autumn Gathering

The College of Biomedicine (CBM) welcomed its newest cohort of postgraduate students with a festive celebration, hosting the “Mid-Autumn Gathering: CBM Welcomes New Postgraduate Students” on 23 September 2026. The event brought together over 80 new postgraduate students, a distinguished alumnus, and faculty members for an afternoon of connection, inspiration, and festive cheer.

The gathering commenced with a warm welcome address by Professor Geoffrey Lau, Associate Dean (Postgraduate Education), who provided an insightful introduction to the College, highlighting its commitment to cutting-edge research and academic excellence. This was followed by a sharing session from Mr. Ronald Chow, a current PhD student in Biomedical Engineering, who offered valuable perspectives on postgraduate life at CityUHK, covering everything from navigating research pathways and balancing academic demands to maximizing university resources.

Distinguished alumnus Mr. Colin Ng shares his entrepreneurial journey and insights into biotechnology innovation with new postgraduate students

Attendees were then treated to an inspiring talk by Mr. Colin Ng, an alumnus of the MSc in Health Sciences and Management programme. Mr. Ng, a distinguished entrepreneur and Adjunct Professor at CityUHK, shared his journey from the University to founding Greater Bay Biotechnology, a startup focused on transdermal cell and drug delivery technology. His story of innovation and success, which includes winning multiple awards such as the HK Tech 300 Seed and Angel Funds, resonated deeply with the aspiring students.

To highlight institutional support, Ms. Duan Chen, representing the Career and Leadership Centre of Student Development Services, spoke on the various support systems and resources available to postgraduate students for career planning and pursuits.

The event concluded with a networking session and refreshments, where participants enjoyed traditional mooncakes and engaged in lively conversations. The gathering provided a perfect opportunity for new students to build connections within the CBM community and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival together.
