Successful Kick-off of CBM Seminar Series

1 September 2025

The College of Biomedicine (CBM) successfully launched the CBM Seminar Series 2025–26 on 1 September 2025. Attracting more than 120 participants, the well-received first seminar marked a good start for the series.

The seminar featured Professor Michael Häusser, Chair Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Hong Kong, who delivered a keynote lecture entitled “All-optical interrogation of mammalian neural circuits”. The event began with an opening address by Professor Isaiah Arkin, Dean of CBM, who welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of scholarly exchange in advancing biomedical research.

Professor Häusser then presented his pioneering work on a novel “all-optical” strategy that combines two-photon imaging and optogenetics to study neural circuits at cellular resolution. This cutting-edge approach enables precise manipulation of neuronal ensembles, offering new insights into how cortical activity shapes perception and how hippocampal place cells contribute to spatial navigation.

The successful first seminar has set a strong foundation for the CBM Seminar Series, which will continue to bring distinguished scholars to CityUHK to share their expertise and foster academic dialogue.
