Dr Yiran Wang, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at City University of Hong Kong, received third place at the Highland Barley π · Young Scientists Forum (青稞 π · 青年科學家論壇), held as part of the Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (CSBMB) 2025 National Conference in Nanchang, China. Dr Wang recently completed her PhD under the supervision of Professor Mingliang He.
Dr Wang presented her recent study uncovering how viruses promote immune evasion by driving secretion of a host protein, LRPAP1, which binds to and triggers degradation of the interferon receptor IFNAR1. This mechanism reveals a previously unknown extracellular pathway by which viruses suppress innate immunity, offering new perspectives for antiviral research.
The Highland Barley π Forum highlights outstanding early-career researchers across China’s biochemistry and molecular biology community. Dr Wang’s recognition reflects the Department’s commitment to fostering young scientists whose work advances understanding of molecular mechanisms in health and disease. The Department congratulates her on this well-deserved achievement.
