Professor Julien Chaisse Elected to the Academic Forum on ISDS Steering Committee

CityU School of Law proudly announces the election of Professor Julien Chaisse to the Steering Committee (SC) of the Academic Forum on Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS). This election is a testament to Professor Chaisse’s significant contributions in international law and international dispute resolution.

The Academic Forum on ISDS is instrumental in fostering critical discussions among scholars in the field of ISDS. Its core objective is to stimulate thoughtful examination of key issues and support the ongoing reform efforts of ISDS. This is particularly relevant in the context of the work carried out by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law’s (UNCITRAL) Working Group III (WGIII).

UNCITRAL’s WGIII has been tasked with a critical role in addressing concerns related to investor-state dispute settlement systems. The group’s work focuses on examining and recommending improvements to the dispute resolution process, ensuring fair and equitable treatment in investment policies, and enhancing the efficiency of dispute resolution mechanisms. The involvement of the Academic Forum, through contributions from its Steering Committee, is crucial in shaping these discussions and proposed reforms.

In his new role on the SC, starting on 1 January 2024, Professor Chaisse will engage in shaping the forum’s activities, influencing policies, and participating in essential committees and meetings. His role will extend to interacting with the wider membership of the Academic Forum, contributing to steering the organization’s direction and impact.

CityU School of Law congratulates Professor Chaisse on this remarkable achievement and anticipates his influential contribution to the field of international law, international dispute resolution, and academia.
