The Japanese government has decided to release treated radioactive water accumulated at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea from the year of 2023. “An Energy-Free, Low-Cost and High Cooling Performance Passive Radiative Cooling Technology for Building Applications” led by Dr. Edwin Tso, Assistant Professor, received the Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days (IGED) 2021. IGED, held from 10 to 14 March 2021, is a special edition of the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva due to the pandemic.
Mr. Alvin Wong (Head of R&D and Deputy Technical Director) of Paul Y. Engineering, shared with the SEE community, the concept of modular integrated construction (MiC), the pros and cons and its usage in Hong Kong. He also explained Paul Y.’s patented connection system used in MiC. The talk was very well received.

Prof. Kenneth Leung is an expert in marine science. His research interests encompass marine pollution, ecotoxicology, environmental risk assessment, environmental quality benchmarks, marine ecology, biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration using eco-engineering.
Ms. Lau Wing Chi Celia (Planning Engineer) and Mr. Lo Kwan Ming (System Control Engineer), from HK Electric Co., spoke at the SEE Dialogue with Professionals on 22 March 2021. Ms. Lau and Mr. Lo, young professionals in the engineering field, both shared their experience in power utility and provided useful tips on career development as an engineer to our undergraduate students. The online sharing session was well received.

Dr. Carol Lin, Associate Professor in SEE, is coordinating a project on reducing the transmission of the novel coronavirus and other infectious diseases using food waste-derived medical textiles via electrospinning for healthcare apparel and personal protective equipment (PPE).
