The third Science Summer Camp was successfully delivered online on 13 and 14 July 2021. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic situation, 70 talented prospective PhD candidates participated in the virtual camp while staying at home safely in the Mainland China, India, Nigeria, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam and Hong Kong.
As a signature event of the College of Science, the Science Summer Camp is designed to offer outstanding prospective PhD applicants an opportunity to experience the student life in CityU and to get a taste of our excellent research education in science. During the camp, more than 20 departmental research seminars and information talks have been arranged for the participants to explore research degree opportunities at the Departments of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Participants are also given a chance to be interviewed with their proposed supervisors for future admission.
Professor Chun-Sing Lee, Acting Dean of the College of Science, warmly welcomed the participants at the opening session. Professor Robert Li, Associate Dean of Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, and Professor Zhang Ruiqin, Associate Dean (Research) of the College, shared with the participants the exciting opportunities and support that CityU offers to our PhD students and what makes CityU an ideal destination for students with an aspiration to embark on their PhD study.
The Science Summer Camp will invite applications for next year in early 2022 and we hope that participants can enjoy the camp on CityU campus next year. Interested students are encouraged to stay tuned with us for more information.
