Congratulations: Five PH Faculty Members are ranked as the World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists 2023 by Stanford University
We are delighted to share that five PH faculty members, including Professor Patrick Butaye, Professor Dirk Pfeiffer, Professor Olivier Sparagano, Professor Mason Dean, and Professor Ming Wai Kit, are ranked as the World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists 2023 by Stanford University. This recognition reflects the high academic standards of our faculty members and our outstanding research performance.
MSc graduate Mr. Zhaojin Guo wins the Outstanding Graduate Student Paper and Presentation Award at the 2023 International Symposim on Animal Environment and Welfare
Mr. Zhaojin Guo, the graduate of MSc in Public Health and Epidemiology and the Part-time Research Assistant for Prof. LIU Kai, wins the Outstanding Graduate Student Paper and Presentation Award at the 2023 International Symposim on Animal Environment and Welfare (ISAEW) in Chongqing, China. The title of his paper and presentation is “DeMVpp-YOLO: A lightweight pig behavior detection model for improved pig health management in farrowing pens”.
New study: Subsidized veterinary extension services may reduce antimicrobial resistance in aquaculture
City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the Agriculture Fisheries Conservation Department of the government of Hong Kong in 2018 initiated a subsidized aquatic animal veterinary service to help small stakeholder farmers improve their fish production and reduce the use of antibiotics on farms.

PH Launches Traditional Chinese Medicine Epidemic Prevention Program
The "Strengthening the Firewall against Major Epidemics: Promotion of Achievements in Traditional Chinese Medicine (築牢重大疫病 「防火牆」中醫藥抗疫成就推廣展)" program, organized by the PH and funded by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Fund, has officially commenced. The first public exhibition was launched at Telford Plaza on April 28th.
Prof. Ming Wai-kit's team aims to utilize innovative technology to assist women in achieving successful pregnancies
Prof. Ming Wai-kit, Assistant Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health at the City University of Hong Kong, emphasized that "childbearing is a fundamental right for every woman." He hopes that the innovative technology being developed by their team will assist women in achieving successful pregnancies. Ultimately, they aspire to integrate this groundbreaking technology into medical insurance systems.

We are delighted to share that Dr Alan McElligott (PH), Dr Kate Flay (VCS) and Dr Hannah Mumby have been jointly awarded a new grant of HK$2M from the Lantau Conservation Fund (LCF) for their 3-year research project of "The role of Buffalo in Lantau Biodiversity Conservation".
The project aims to assess how the buffalo and their behaviours affect Lantau biodiversity and to assess how buffalo-human relations influence buffalo in their conservation role.
