Programme Aims and Objectives
- To educate students to excel in advanced mechanical engineering discipline as well as to extend the boundaries of their professional competence to meet the needs of future industrial development.
- To provide opportunities for students to develop leadership and creativity by engaging in interactive learning environments and management studies.

Programme Structure and Contents
Students may obtain the MSc degree upon completion of 30 credit units by following either path of study:
- 4 core courses + 6 elective taught courses; or
- 4 core courses + dissertation + 3 elective taught courses
The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering programme is divided into three streams: (1) the Mechanical Stream, (2) the Robotics Stream, and (3) the Nuclear Stream. The Mechanical Stream is designed for students who wish to focus on developing advanced research skills and knowledge in the general mechanical engineering field. The Robotics Stream focuses on advanced automation, intelligent systems, and applications of modern robotics, in response to the booming demands for expertise in the relevant hi-tech areas. The Nuclear Stream is geared toward students who wish to acquire knowledge and practical experience in the field of nuclear engineering, providing opportunities for experiential learning in professional settings. Students are required to select one of these streams at the time of application to the program. Please refer to the syllabus for the detailed courses.

Entrance Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the University's general entrance requirements and the following programme entrance requirements.
- Hold a degree in engineering or equivalent;
- Applicants must have mechanical engineering or related engineering academic background.
Note: Final year undergraduate students who will acquire the requisite academic qualification before the commencement of the programme may apply for admission.
English Proficiency Requirement
Applicants must satisfy the University's General Entrance Requirements and the following programme entrance requirements:
- Hold a degree in engineering or equivalent;
- Applicants must have mechanical engineering or related engineering academic background.

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is NOT English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:
- 79 (Internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)@#; or
- an overall band score of 6.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)@##; or
- a score of 450 in the Chinese mainland’s College English Test Band 6 (CET-6); or
- other equivalent qualifications.
@ TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period. 'TOEFL iBT Home Edition', ‘TOEFL MyBest Score’, ‘IELTS Indicator’, ‘IELTS One Skill Retake’ and ‘IELTS Online’ are not acceptable.
# Applicants are required to arrange with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send their TOEFL results directly to the University. The TOEFL institution code for CityUHK is 3401.
## Applicants are required to arrange for sending their IELTS result(s) via the IELTS Results Service e-delivery to the University. Please note that applicants with an overall band score of 6.0 will be required to pass an interview for English proficiency conducted by the concerned academic unit. Interviews for other applicants may not be required.
