The inaugural cohort of the ground-breaking educational initiative organised by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), "On Our Next Generation of Humans and AI: Living with Generative AI Smartly and Responsibly", sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, commenced in March 2025. Targeting junior secondary school students, the programme aims to enhance their awareness and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) throughout their explorative learning journey. The final session of the first cohort, which took place on 3 May 2025 at CityUHK, featured captivating final project presentations, the announcement of winners and a prize-presentation ceremony.

The event, attended by the secondary school students and their school principals, teachers and parents, showcased the remarkable progress and transformation of these young minds. Dr Yuen Pong-yiu, Executive Chairman of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, delivered an inspiring keynote speech emphasising AI's pivotal role in shaping contemporary society and the importance of cultivating responsible AI literacy among youth.

This two-year educational programme is managed by an interdisciplinary project team comprising faculty members from electronic engineering, data science, and social and behavioural sciences. It unites 80 CityUHK student trainers with 480 junior secondary school participants, delivering a rich and interactive learning experience that bridges AI technologies and social sciences. The successful completion of this inaugural cohort marks an important milestone. Three more cohorts are scheduled in 2025 and 2026 to further promote the responsible use of emerging technologies and raise awareness among more secondary school students.
