With the well-being of the community and the nation at heart, Mr Zhang Bo, Chairman and CEO of China Hongqiao Group Limited (Hongqiao), Honorary Fellow of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and Honorary Patron of the CityUHK Foundation, has once again extended meaningful support to the University through a new donation dedicated to fostering community healing and resilience in response to the Wang Fuk Court fire, while also supporting research initiatives and talent development in the business discipline.

Through the CityUHK Foundation Dinner, this latest gift supports CityUHK in establishing community healing hubs – named the “Community Chilling Hubs” – to serve both the core neighbourhood and the wider communities affected by the Wang Fuk Court fire. Seeking to go beyond conventional medical and institutional interventions in Hong Kong, the initiative adopts a more holistic and community-centred model of care that addresses both immediate needs and the deeper, longer-term process of recovery.

Scheduled for launch in July 2026, CityUHK’s Community Chilling Hubs, sponsored by Hongqiao, will offer integrated services as a one-stop platform that brings together professional support, health screening and community-based care for two years. Leveraging CityUHK’s social and public health innovations, the project promotes healing not only at the individual level but also across the wider community. It also carries an important educational dimension, creating learning opportunities for CityUHK students and enabling them to grow through community service and exposure to social innovation.

Prior to this initiative, Hongqiao made significant contributions to CityUHK and established the Hongqiao Endowed Fund for Community Care under the CityUHK Endowment Campaign as a perpetual fund for community engagement initiatives. Through knowledge transfer, the endowed fund supports projects which address pressing social issues, expand educational opportunities and advance sustainable development.

One notable example is the Hongqiao Cerebro-Cardiovascular (C2) Health Guardian Programme, the first community project sponsored by the endowed fund. This 18-month initiative aims to promote public health awareness and early detection of chronic diseases through innovative screening technologies.

With an eye to the future, Hongqiao is also extending its support to research and talent development initiatives in FinTech, business analytics, and global supply chain at CityUHK, reflecting an extensive commitment to nurturing future leaders while serving broader societal needs.

It takes a village to rebuild a community from trauma. Guided by its core value of “from society and for society”, Hongqiao is committed to contributing its resources and joining hands with CityUHK in a healing journey that calls for compassion, solidarity and a shared resolve to recover.
