Bright Future Charitable Foundation: Gearing Engineering Education for the AI Era

Dr Roy CHUNG Chi-ping, GBS, SBS, JP, Co-founder of Techtronic Industries Company Limited, Chairman of the Bright Future Charitable Foundation, Court Member of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), and Honorary Patron of the CityUHK Foundation, has for many years stood alongside the University as a devoted supporter of higher education and youth development. Most recently, through the CityUHK Foundation Dinner, Dr Chung reaffirmed his unwavering support for the University with a renewed donation to CityUHK’s Bright Future Engineering Talent Hub (the Hub).
Since its establishment in 2021, the Hub has served as the cradle of the next generation of engineers, inspiring young students to discover the wonders of STEM. Its signature activities have already attracted enthusiastic participation, with thousands of primary and secondary students joining the learning journey.
With this latest donation, the Hub will embark on a new strategic direction, integrating cutting-edge AI into its programmes to equip students with the acumen and skills to flourish in a future powered by innovation.
Central to Dr Chung’s philanthropy is the conviction that knowledge reveals its true value only when put into practice. Echoing this vision, the STEM and AI educational programmes made possible by Dr Chung’s generous support have opened doors for students to pursue their aspirations with confidence, broadening their horizons through holistic learning experiences and professional preparation from an early age. He has been supporting engineering education at CityUHK through scholarships, tearing down financial barriers so that CityUHK students can reach their full potential in STEM.
Recently, Dr Chung has once again pledged a generous donation to renew the scholarship schemes and further enhance the Bright Future Whole Person Development Scholarships. The enhanced scheme has extended support to engineering students pursuing Joint Bachelor’s Degree Programmes offered by CityUHK and leading international institutions, equipping them to tackle global challenges.
More than a renewed gift, Dr Chung’s benevolence speaks to a larger vision. In a fickle era shaped by technological shifts and unprecedented challenges, his steadfast support always conveys a forward-looking commitment to cultivating future engineers and leaders ready to make a meaningful difference in society.
A philanthropist who nourishes with quiet grace, Dr Chung has left an indelible mark on CityUHK and on the lives of students who will, in time, carry forward his foresight and tenacity. Thanks to his enduring contributions, the University will continue to ignite young minds to engage with engineering and AI education, building the brighter future to which we all aspire.
