The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) recently hosted two educational engagement events led by Dr HAN Kam Chu, Senior Teaching Fellow, introducing secondary school students to the principles of clinical diagnostics and biomedical research through interactive learning experiences.

CityUHK Experiential Camp (OVPCE): BMS Workshop on 28 July 2026

As part of the 2026 CityUHK Experiential Camp, organised by the Office of the Vice-President (Community Engagement), Dr Han conducted a hands-on workshop for prospective university students. The session combined practical activities and interactive sharing to introduce fundamental laboratory concepts and explore study and career opportunities in the health sciences.

Learning Classroom: “The Story of a Biopsy – From Science to Diagnosis” on 29 July 2026

The following day, Dr Han delivered a specialised session as part of the CityUHK Learning Classroom series. The session guided participants through the journey of a tissue biopsy, from sample preparation and microscopic examination to the interpretation of findings for vital clinical diagnosis. It highlighted how biomedical laboratory science supports patient care and connects scientific knowledge with real-world healthcare.

Together, the two events gave secondary school students an opportunity to experience biomedical science beyond the classroom and gain a better understanding of its applications in healthcare and potential career pathways.
