From 26 to 29 April 2026, 15 final-year BSc in Biomedical Sciences (BScBMS) students from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) travelled to Kobe, Japan, for a study tour of the global headquarters of Sysmex Corporation, a leading developer of diagnostic technologies. The trip was led by Mr Jacky Ng, Senior Teaching Fellow, and Ms Fannie Tsang, Teaching Fellow.

The four-day visit took students behind the scenes of three major Sysmex facilities — the Solution Center, i-SQUARE and Technopark. They explored advanced automated analysers and gained insights into research and development in haematology and immunology, seeing first-hand how diagnostic technologies are developed and translated into applications for clinical laboratories worldwide.

The experience gave students an opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real-world biomedical science. By exploring Sysmex’s technologies, research facilities and history, they gained a deeper understanding of how scientific knowledge is applied in healthcare and valuable insights into potential career pathways in the diagnostics industry.

The overseas learning experience was made possible through generous financial support from the UGC Funding Scheme for the Global Talents Training Programme.
