On 20 September 2025, the Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) hosted the seminar “Current Trends in Digital Pathology & Future Directions”, attracting more than 100 attendees from the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) field. The event offered a timely look at how digital pathology and artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping diagnostic medicine.

Expert speakers Dr Siu Ming Mak from the Hospital Authority and Prof Hei Ming Lai from The Chinese University of Hong Kong provided valuable insights on the regional adoption of digital pathology in Hong Kong, emerging 3D histology techniques, and their potential to transform clinical workflows. Specialist Mr Kun Gui from KFBio, who also coordinated the event, shared his practical experience in implementing AI-powered digital pathology solutions. Attendees praised the up-to-date content and encouraged BMS to host similar sessions in the future to foster discussion and innovation in this critical field.
