From 21 to 23 July 2025, the Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted the Biological Science Summer Camp 2025, welcoming 17 enthusiastic secondary school students for an immersive experience in the field of biological sciences.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Session, where faculty members introduced the camp’s objectives and highlighted the opportunities available in biological sciences. This was followed by a Biomedical Application Workshop, which combined lectures with hands-on activities to demonstrate the real-world applications of biomedical science.
Students also took part in a Laboratory Demonstration and Tour, where they observed cutting-edge experiments led by academic and technical staff. On the second day, students engaged in a Practical ELISA COVID Simulation, grasping the principles of diagnostic testing in an interactive setting. A highlight of the day was the Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience Workshop, which explored the intersection of these dynamic fields and sparked thought-provoking discussions about future implications. The day concluded with a Guided Campus Tour, offering students a glimpse into university life at CityUHK.
The final day featured a Genebox Platform Scientific Workshop, introducing students to innovative research technologies. The camp concluded with a Dialogue with Faculty, during which participants interacted with academic staff, current BSc Biological Sciences students and alumni, inspiring students to pursue further studies in biological sciences.
The Biological Science Summer Camp 2025 was a transformative experience for all involved. The Department was delighted to witness the enthusiasm and joy of the secondary school participants throughout the camp. We also extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated faculty and staff for their invaluable support and look forward to future initiatives that continue to inspire young minds in the field of biological sciences.
