Building Resilient Futures: SEE Colloquium on Safety and Urban Sustainability

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted a colloquium on 26 January 2026, titled “Building Safety and Sustainable Development.” The event featured Sr Vincent Ho, MH, JP, Founder and Managing Director of Freevision Limited, as the distinguished speaker. With over 30 years of experience as a professional building surveyor, Mr. Ho has served as President of The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and is widely recognized for his expertise in building safety, maintenance, and sustainable urban development.

The session brought together SEE students, faculty, and industry professionals interested in addressing pressing challenges in Hong Kong’s built environment. It was moderated by Prof. Edwin Chi‑Yan Tso, Associate Dean (Internationalisation and Outreach) at SEE, who facilitated the discussion and audience interaction.

Mr. Ho recounted his professional journey as a building surveyor and examined the challenges posed by the city’s aging infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of long‑term planning and regulatory foresight in safeguarding building safety, while also highlighting how innovative technologies, such as smart monitoring systems and predictive maintenance tools, can advance sustainable urban development.
Through practical case studies, Mr. Ho demonstrated how strategic upgrades and policy innovation can strengthen resilience across Hong Kong’s building stock. His insights underscored the pivotal role of building professionals in shaping a safer, more sustainable urban future.
