PhD student Liu Jie from the Department of Physics at City University of Hong Kong, under the supervision of Prof. WANG Xin (Sunny), has achieved remarkable success at the 7th MindSpore Quantum Computing National Hackathon 2025. Competing in three different technical tracks, Liu Jie’s team was awarded the Outstanding Award (优秀奖) in all categories.

The awards were earned in the following tracks: Quantum Error MitigationQuantum Combinatorial Optimization, and Quantum Heuristic Algorithms. These areas represent some of the most critical challenges in the current landscape of quantum computing, ranging from improving computation accuracy to tackling complex optimization tasks and developing scalable heuristic methods for real-world applications.

The MindSpore Hackathon, organized by the MindSpore Community and supported by leading universities including the University of Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University, and Zhejiang University, is one of China’s most competitive platforms for young researchers and developers in quantum computing. It attracts top talent from across the nation, emphasizing both practical coding ability and deep theoretical insight.

Liu Jie’s triple recognition highlights both his research capabilities and the strength of CityU’s training in quantum information science. Under Prof. WANG’s mentorship, the achievement not only reflects personal excellence but also showcases Hong Kong’s growing presence in the fast-developing field of quantum technologies.
