The Engineering Doctorate (Chinese) (EngD (Chinese)) programme is an executive engineering education programme offered by the College of Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. It is the first Doctor of Engineering programme conducted in Chinese in Hong Kong. The EngD (Chinese) programme addresses the increasing demand for senior management professionals who possess the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate rapid technological advancements in China and globally.

This programme aims to develop students' creative thinking through tackling important strategic industrial projects and meeting the specific needs of industry. Students will study advanced engineering management and industrial research while fulfilling their professional responsibilities. The originality and value of their research will be assessed within their specific professional and industrial contexts. As professional activities are often multidisciplinary and driven by business and management considerations, the programme will offer a diverse range of coursework in Engineering Management. It provides an integrated curriculum that combines theory, practice, and research, designed to enhance professionals' creative thinking and their ability to apply knowledge to resolve critical strategic challenges in the industry.

To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the University’s general entrance requirements and the entrance requirements:

(i) hold a Master's degree in a related engineering discipline/profession (or equivalent qualification)* from a recognised university;
OR
hold a Master's degree (or equivalent qualification)* in a non-engineering-related discipline/profession from a recognised university, AND possess at least one of the following:
a.    a bachelor's degree in engineering/technology-related disciplines
b.    a recognised professional qualification in an engineering-related field (e.g., Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Professional Engineer (PEng))
c.    substantial work experience in engineering, technology, or innovation-related fields

AND

(ii) have at least five years' recent work experience at a senior level.

* Equivalent qualifications mentioned above include relevant professional qualifications or other scholarly achievements recognised by the University.

Applicants from a university where the language of teaching is not Chinese should provide additional Chinese language qualifications.

The programme will be taught in Chinese (Mandarin).

The programme comprises a taught component and a research component.

Taught Component:
The taught component comprises 9 credit units of core courses and 12 credit units of elective courses. The courses available to EngD (Chinese) students provide a comprehensive blend of technology and innovation management, aiming to equip industry with competent and knowledgeable managers in the fields of technology and innovation.

Core Courses:
There is a significant demand in the industry for professionals who can implement new technologies and knowledge effectively in business. The core courses are designed to prepare students to address the immediate needs of industry by fostering innovative applications and the implementation of cutting-edge knowledge.
