Deepening Academic and Research Ties: Delegation from Sun Yat-Sen University Visits SEE

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) was delighted to welcome a delegation from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering (SESE) at Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) on 13 July 2026. The visit fostered vibrant academic exchange, student mingling, and discussions on future research collaborations between the two institutions, moderated by Prof. Theodora Nah, Associate Professor at SEE.
The programme commenced with a leadership meeting featuring CityUHK Vice-President (Research), Prof. Kenneth Leung, BBS, JP, and Prof. Theodora Nah, alongside SYSU delegates Prof. Feng Jiang, Prof. Hongyu Guo (Associate Professor & Assistant Dean of SESE), and Ms. Sidi Hao. Simultaneously, SEE student representatives hosted a welcoming mingling session for nine SESE undergraduate students.
Following the morning sessions, faculty members and students from both institutions gathered for an introduction to SEE and SESE. Representatives from SEE, including Prof. Theodora Nah, Prof. Zhiguo Yuan AM, Prof. Ping Han, and Prof. Xueke Li, joined the SYSU delegation in sharing information on their respective schools' academic strengths, research focuses, and educational initiatives.
The introductions were followed by a productive discussion on potential areas for future research collaboration. Faculty members exchanged insights on shared research interests and explored opportunities to strengthen academic partnerships in environmental science, engineering, and sustainability.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured SEE's state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, including the JC STEM Lab of Sustainable Urban Water Management, led by Prof. Zhiguo Yuan AM. The visit offered delegates and students an opportunity to gain first-hand insights into SEE's cutting-edge research infrastructure and ongoing work in sustainable environmental solutions.
The visit concluded with a networking lunch that brought together faculty members and students from both universities. The gathering provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen connections and celebrate a shared commitment to advancing environmental science and sustainability through education, research, and collaboration.
