The programme aims to:

1. Develop intellectual, analytical, technological, and managerial abilities of students by providing a stimulating learning environment that integrates digital technologies, data analytics, and intelligent systems into the study of construction and project management within the built environment sector.

    

2. Equip students with advanced knowledge and professional skills to meet the evolving demands of the digital and intelligent construction industry, and enable students to exercise these skills and abilities in the built environment and the international project management field.
   
   
3. Provide a basis for continuing professional development, and encouragement for professional specialization in areas such as BIM, AI applications, digital twins, smart construction, and sustainable project delivery.

    

4. Develop competent and forward-looking construction and engineering professionals into effective project leaders and innovation managers, with the strategic, managerial, and technical expertise required for the planning, execution, and management of intelligent and sustainable built environment projects.

    

5. Foster leadership, creativity, and global vision among the future professional managers, enabling them to lead multidisciplinary teams, enhance quality and efficiency in project delivery, and contribute to the advancement of smart, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure development at both local and international levels.

To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements and have:

• a degree in a construction related discipline which would normally be Architecture, Building, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, or Building Services/Civil/Structural Engineering, or
• obtained an equivalent qualification or provided evidence of academic and professional attainments acceptable for this purpose to the University.

Preference will normally be given to applicants who have the support of their employers in pursuing the programme and three years' post graduation work experience in the construction industry, preferably with managerial responsibility.

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should fulfil the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

• a score of 79 (for tests taken prior to 21 January 2026) or 4 (for tests taken from 21 January 2026 onwards) (Internet-based Test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)^@#; or
• an overall band score of 6.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) ^@#; or
• a score of 450 in the Chinese Mainland’s College English Test Band 6 (CET-6); or
• other equivalent qualifications

^@TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the start of the University's application period. 'TOEFL iBT Home Edition', ‘TOEFL MyBest Score’, ‘IELTS Indicator’, ‘IELTS One Skill Retake’ and ‘IELTS Online’ are not acceptable. All TOEFL results must be sent directly by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) using CityUHK’s institution code 3401, while IELTS results must be sent via the IELTS Results Service e-delivery to 'City University of Hong Kong - Graduate School'.

^#Applicants with an IELTS overall band score of 6.0 or a TOEFL overall score of 4 will be required to pass an interview for English proficiency conducted by the concerned academic unit. Applicants with a comparable overall score of 79 or above shown on the TOEFL report may be exempt from the interview requirement. Interviews for other applicants may not be required.

In general, application for credit unit transfer is normally not entertained. In case an application is considered fully justified by the Head of Department, the courses for transfer must be taken from master programme by the student within 3 years from the date of application of this transfer exercise. This arrangement does not apply to students registering for another stream after graduation from one stream. Criteria for granting credit unit transfer include the level, the duration and the content of the course.

Applications for credit transfer for work completed prior to entry to the University must be made in the first semester following the student’s admission, before the deadline set by the University. Applications for credit transfer for outside work completed after admission to the University must be made immediately in the semester following attainment of the additional qualification.
