On 25 February 2022, City University of Hong Kong Press and the Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion at the Chinese University of Hong Kong jointly held a webinar for The Healthy Settings Approach in Hong Kong: Sustainable Development for Population Health.

In addition to the author of the book, Prof. Albert LEE (Clinical Professor of Public Health and Primary Care and Founding Director of the Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion at the Chinese University of Hong Kong), we were honoured to invite Mr. Hung-sum TSE (Assistant Director of Education Services at Caritas-Hong Kong), Prof. Dennis S.W. Wong (Professor of Criminology & Social Work in the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences at City University of Hong Kong), Dr. Ning FAN (Founding Chairman of Health in Action and Specialist in General Surgery to share their views on the development of health education and promotion in Hong Kong.

The book is the second volume in the Healthy Settings Series, which focuses on the upstream, midstream, and downstream approaches for improving population health and reducing health inequity in various settings and contexts throughout the community and the world. The author uses real life experiences from different countries, with a focus on Hong Kong, and discusses many initiatives that have been enacted. Each chapter draws on this evidence and translates the healthy settings framework into daily practice, thus providing guidance in synergising actions across different contexts and offering essential insight for educators, researchers, and professionals across countless disciplines.

During the webinar, Prof.Lee introduced the content of his new book and the significance of promoting health education. He further elaborated on the importance of healthy settings and promoting healthy choices and knowledge in daily life in Hong Kong. The speakers then had an in-depth discussion about how the school environment can be used to promote health education and the significance of such life education in the development of young people. This conversation also touched on concerns regarding the need to enhance primary healthcare services to disadvantaged groups as well as the value of life in the context of healthcare.
