To nurture young leaders in the fields of energy, environment and sustainability, the School is pleased to announce that Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong Ltd (Arup) has kindly agreed to donate a scholarship to the University in order to reward SEE student with outstanding academic performance and promising attributes with effect from the 2021/2022 academic year.
To connect members of the CityU community, CityU organized the “CityU Homecoming 2022” on 13 March 2022 (Sunday). SEE arranged the “SEE Homecoming – Mix and Mingle” Session particularly for SEE alumni, faculty members and students to meet and chat online. Over 30 SEE members joined the online mingling session on a sunny Sunday.
In a recent Colloquium, Mr. Thomas Wu (CEO, ASB Biodiesel Hong Kong) shared his insights on how waste oil could be handled and turn to renewable energy. The Colloquium was well received with fruitful discussion among speaker and audiences.
At the “SEE Dialogue with Professionals: Introduction to Energy Finance – Fundamental Concepts, Industry Landscape and Career Development” held on 21 January 2022, Mr. Calvin Gan, SEE Alumnus & Assistant Vice President of Global Financial Institutions Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, shared with over 100 SEE students and staff the recent trends in green finance. Case studies on renewable energy finance across regions were covered.
Hydrogen technology is one of the potential solutions in Hong Kong to address the challenges encountered in achieving carbon neutrality. Hydrogen usage is more meaningful when it is produced in a green way. Dr. Yun Hau Ng, Associate Professor of SEE, was invited to share his view and research information with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) community on the progress and status of a new photocatalytic technology in producing green hydrogen on 9 February 2022. The webinar was attended by over 400 participants followed by a fruitful discussion.
In a recent Colloquium, Ir Tony Leung (Chief Engineer, Cavern Projects Division, Drainage Services Department, HKSAR Government) shared his insights on the Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works (STSTW) to Caverns with the audience.
Four research projects led by scholars at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) received grants worth HK$20.26 million in total from the inaugural Green Tech Fund under the Environmental Protection Department, Hong Kong SAR Government.
Three of those awarded projects are led by faculty members of the School of Energy and Environment, Prof. Chak K. Chan, Dean and Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment, Prof. Alex Jen, Lee Shau Kee Chair Professor of Materials Science and Dr. Yun Hau Ng, Associate Professor respectively.
At the “SEE Dialogue with Professionals: Considering a Career Path in Environmental Management?” held on 17 January 2022, Mr. Norman Cheng, Business Development Director, Veolia Hong Kong, shared with over 130 SEE students and staff the career opportunities in environmental management. He explained how theoretical knowledge could be applied in the society in terms of water/wastewater, solid waste, and energy management. Mr.
Dr. Carol Lin, Associate Professor, has been awarded HK$ 2,682,810 by the Research Grants Council (RGC) via European Union (EU)-Hong Kong Research and Innovation Cooperation Co-funding Mechanism.
Congratulations to Dr. Chunhua Liu, Associate Professor, on receiving the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2021/22 with his research proposal titled “Development of Novel Integrated Wireless Motor Drives for Cordless Joints of Robotics”. The awarded project received funding of HK$5,509,700.
