In the summer term of 2024, Prof. Sai Kishore Ravi led two field trips for postgraduate students from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), themed on the Water-Energy Nexus. These trips offered students a chance to explore key operations in Hong Kong’s water sector and understand their energy demands. The students visited the Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant and the Sha Tin Water Treatment Plant, where they observed advanced technologies in action.

SEE and CLP have a long-standing collaboration on undergraduate student training. This partnership, which began in 2018 with an energy audit training programme, has already benefited over 50 undergraduate students from SEE. Under the mentorship of CLP experts, our students gained hands-on experience in conducting energy audits and developing energy-saving solutions for businesses.

At the 2024 THE Global Sustainable Development Congress, experts empathized the importance of collaboration among the government, industry, and universities for successful innovation. City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) was commended for being a hub for research and innovation. Professor Angus Yip Hin-Lap highlighted how partnerships between universities, industries, and governments are crucial for sharing new technologies.

The Research Grants Committee (RGC) released the results of the 2024/25 General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS) exercise on 27 June. It is with great satisfaction that we announce the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) has had eight esteemed faculty members recognized and awarded this year, securing in a cumulative research grant surpassing HK$8M.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Johnny Chan, an Emeritus Professor of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong, has been elected as an Honorary Member of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) for the year 2024. This prestigious award is a testament to Professor Chan's exceptional international standing in the field of geosciences and his invaluable contributions to the society.

On 12 July 2024, six undergraduate students from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) were recognized as recipients of the HK Electric Scholarships for Exemplary SEE Attributes 2023/24. The prestigious scholarship presentation ceremony was held at the HK Electric Centre in Mid-Levels. The event was attended by the following SEE students: ALI Hassan, CHAN Ho Chun, CHOW Hoi Yan, HU Jiuniu, LAN Qingyang and WANG Yan Yan.

Under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Tso, an undergraduate student at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), Miss Lau Cheuk Ying Kathy, won the first runner-up in the “Green Energy Dreams Come True” Competition organized by HK Electric. The competition took place at the Central market on 6 July 2024, with the aim to acknowledge students who demonstrate excellence in the fields of green energy, carbon reduction, sustainability and innovation.
