The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) is thrilled to announce the recipients of the “VTech Innovation & Sustainability Award”.   This Award is made possible by a generous donation from the VTech Group of Companies (VTech) and is intended to recognize outstanding students who have demonstrated exceptional performance, innovation, and impact in their Final Year Project (FYP) related to sustainability.  We congratulate the following students on their remarkable achievement.

On 21 April 2023, the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) organized its first School Annual Lunch Gathering since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Just in time, Professor Chak K. CHAN, our former School Dean and Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment, will leave CityU at the end of April to join King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia.  The SEE Annual Lunch Gathering becomes a good occasion for SEE members and CityU friends to meet and say farewell to Professor Chak Chan.

We are delighted to have Dr. Winnie Tang, MH, JP, share her expertise and insights on Smart Technologies Driving Sustainable Smart Cities at the SEE Colloquium on 18 January 2023. In the Colloquium, Dr. Tang talked about global trends of smart cities, the journey of Hong Kong towards a smart city, how emerging technologies empower informed decision-making, and the next step forward for a sustainable future. The Colloquium was conducted on-campus again after years of the pandemic.

Under the supervision of Dr. Edwin Tso, the team formed by Miss Yuwei Du (PhD student), Dr. Sai Liu (Postdoc) and Dr. Yihao Zhu (Postdoc) won the Gold Award in the 8th China International College Students 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.  This Gold Award winning team will be the only team representing Hong Kong to participate in the national Quarter Finals.

Dr. Edwin Tso and his research team won the Outstanding Paper Award in Energy Sustainability 2022, an International Conference organized by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), on July 12 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Dr. Henry He, Assistant Professor, recently received over HK$1.1M funding from the Marine Ecology Enhancement Fund (MEEF). This 2-year project, titled “Tracing a Novel Group of E-Waste Contaminants - Liquid Crystal Monomers - in the Chinese White Dolphins” will determine the occurrences and distributions of a novel class of emerging organic contaminants related to e-waste, namely liquid crystal monomers (LCMs), in Chinese White Dolphins (CWDs) living in the western Hong Kong and Pearl River Estuary waters.
