Welcome Prof. Katherine Albro Houpt

1The department would like to welcome Prof. Katherine Albro Houpt who is joining us for three weeks to teach part of the ‘Animal Behaviour and Handling’ course in the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme. While at CityU, she will also present two workshops in the Animal Behaviour and Welfare Series of the CityU Centre of Animal Welfare: ‘Do the animals under your care behave normally?’ and ‘How to prevent or treat unwanted behaviours and their consequences’, as well as speak at the seminar ‘Behavioural medicine: how to diagnose and treat behavioural problems in pets’.

Prof. Houpt is Professor Emeritus at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. She received her veterinary degree and her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research has concentrated on clinical animal behavior and welfare. She has published over 100 papers as well as a textbook, Domestic Animal Behavior, now in its sixth edition. She directed the Animal Behavior Clinic at Cornell University’s Hospital for Animals and has trained both residents and graduate students.
