Professor Chen Guanrong is currently Chair Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Director of the Centre for Complexity and Complex Networks of City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He received a Master's Degree of Science in Computational Mathematics from Sun Yatsen University, China, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics from Texas A&M University, the United States.

Professor Chen’s main research pursuit is in the engineering focal areas of nonlinear systems control and dynamics analysis, as well as complex networks. He is the (co)author of over 700 Science Citation Index journal papers and 300 international conference abstracts published since 1981. He has received more than 83,000 non-self citations and has an h-index of 134, according to the literature database Scopus. Professor Chen was listed among the top 2% of the world's most highly cited scientists, according to metric compiled by Stanford University in 2021. He is a “Highly Cited Researcher” in Engineering according to the Clarivate Web of Science. He is the (co)author of 31 technical and edited books, and has received six best journal papers awards. He has been an Editor-in-Chief of several international academic journals, including the International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, and IEEE Circuits and Systems Magazine.

Professor Chen has received many awards and honours, including the conferment of a second-class award under the State Natural Science Award in 2008, 2012 and 2016. He is a Fellow of the World Academy of Science, a Member of Academia Europaea, and an IEEE Life Fellow. He was conferred Honorary Doctorates by Saint Petersburg State University, Russia in 2011, and the University of Le Havre, France in 2014. He has also been invited to give lectures and seminars in over 30 countries, and is Honorary Professor, Advisory Professor or Guest-Chair Professor of more than 30 universities worldwide.
