The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) is committed to promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) among all our staff and students. In alignment with this mission, the JCC DEI Committee organised a seminar on SOGIE Awareness on 7 October 2026. This event featured SOGIE advocate Benita Chick, known for curating Asia’s first SOGIE walking tour and for her key role in securing Hong Kong’s bid for the Gay Games 2022.
Over 100 staff and students attended the seminar, which offered a valuable opportunity to explore the diverse experiences of gender in an open and inclusive manner. Participants were encouraged to interrogate heteronormative and cisnormative assumptions, examine the sociocultural construction of gender and sexuality, and address the challenges faced by SOGIE communities. Additionally, they learned about the importance of inclusive language, proper pronoun usage, and strategies for allyship.

Let’s work together to create a more equitable and supportive environment at JCC and beyond!
