On March 25, 2026, the 5th Annual JCC White Coat Ceremony marked a proud moment for the Year 5 Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) students.

This special occasion celebrated the 2021 Cohort’s transition from coursework to clinical training, where they were cloaked in white coats and recited the Veterinarian’s Oath, affirming their professional commitment.

The ceremony opened with warm remarks from Dean Vanessa Barrs, who reflected on the profound symbolism of the white coat. Her message encouraged the students to embrace their clinical years with courage, compassion, and a steadfast sense of integrity.

Following the Dean’s welcome, Professor Kate Flay, Assistant Dean of Teaching and Learning (BVM) Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Programme Leader, took the podium to share her thoughts on this pivotal stage in the students' development.

Under the guidance of their mentors, the soon-to-be clinicians were ceremoniously vested in their white coats — a moment filled with pride and anticipation. Together, they joined Dean Barrs in reciting the Veterinarian’s Oath, pledging their commitment to uphold ethical practice and compassionate care. Families, friends, and faculty looked on, sharing in the immense pride of this symbolic milestone.

Adding further significance to the event, Professor Pavel Slunsky, the Guest of Honour and Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), delivered a heartfelt speech. His words underscored the importance of resilience, empathy, and continuous growth in veterinary practice.

At JCC, we are deeply proud of these aspiring veterinarians who represent years of focused learning, perseverance, and passion. As they move forward into clinical training, they carry forward the spirit of excellence that defines our programme.

With their enthusiasm and compassion, this cohort is poised to make meaningful contributions to animal welfare and the broader veterinary community. The profession’s future shines bright in their capable hands.
