Safety Guidelines for Outbound Students
As an exchange student you should:
Read and carefully consider all materials issued or recommended by the University and your host institution that relate to safety, health, legal, environmental, political, cultural, and religious conditions in your host country.
Consider your physical and mental fitness and other personal circumstances before registering for any programmes or activities organized by your host institution.
Provide to the University and your host institution any personal or other information that you feel is necessary to ensure a safe and healthy exchange study experience.
Assume responsibility for your personal preparation for your exchange study and attend all orientation sessions before departure and on arrival.
Obtain suitable and adequate insurance coverage as required by the University and your host institution and abide by any conditions imposed by the insurers.
Inform your parents and anyone else who may need to know about your participation in the student exchange. Provide them with emergency contact information and keep in contact with them on a regular basis.
Study and comply with the terms of participation in the Notification and Student Agreement that you signed when you agreed to join the Student Exchange Programme.
Follow any codes of conduct that apply while you are away and comply with emergency procedures if a critical incident arises.
Learn about local weather conditions, dietary habits and anything else that might have an impact on your health or safety when making daily choices and decisions. Promptly and politely express any health or safety concerns to an appropriate person.
Behave in a manner that is respectful of the rights and well-being of others, and encourage others to behave in a similar manner.
Be responsible for your own decisions and actions.
Obey the laws of your host country and be respectful of local customs.
Find out how to access emergency health and law enforcement services at your destination.
Keep the appropriate staff at your host institution informed of your whereabouts and let them know if you encounter a problem.
Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol.
Avoid illegal drugs.
