A bright future shines at CityUHK with inspiration from Dr Roy Chung
A heartwarming gathering was held at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) in October 2025 to welcome Dr Roy Chung Chi-ping, GBS, BBS, JP, Co-founder of Techtronic Industries Company Limited, Chairman of the Bright Future Charitable Foundation, Court member of CityUHK, and Honorary Patron of CityUHK Foundation. His philanthropic efforts support the Bright Future Whole Person Development Scholarships and Bright Future Scholarships for Outstanding Engineering Students. The event brought Dr Chung together with the scholarship recipients, celebrating their achievements and the transformative impact of his support.
Also attending the event were Ms Rebecca Lee, Administrative Director of the Foundation; Professor Shek Chan-hung, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education) of the College of Engineering; Professor Paul Lam Heung-fai, Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering; and Ms Kathy Chan, Associate Vice-President (Development).
The evening was filled with warmth and inspiration as the scholarship recipients shared personal reflections on how the scholarships have positively shaped their university experience and supported their holistic growth, both academically and personally. Through heartfelt speeches, the students expressed how the Foundation’s support has ignited their passion for engineering and strengthened their resolve to contribute to society through innovation and perseverance.
Lively conversations and meaningful exchanges further enriched the evening, as Dr Chung engaged enthusiastically with the students. Concluding the event, Dr Chung extended his best wishes to all the recipients, encouraging them to embrace a truly “bright future” and in time, to give back to society through their own contributions, carrying forward his benevolent spirit and echoing the vision embodied in his Foundation and the scholarships.
Established by Dr Chung in 2005, the Bright Future Charitable Foundation is dedicated to advancing educational diversity and enhancing social well-being. Since 2016, the Foundation has supported CityUHK through the establishment of the Bright Future Whole Person Development Scholarships, followed by the Bright Future Scholarships for Outstanding Engineering Students in 2022. Through these initiatives, the Foundation encourages high-achieving students to excel in engineering, develop into well-rounded professionals, and make meaningful contributions to society with their knowledge and expertise.
