PROF WANG'S CITYU SCHOLARS PROFILE

Professor Xun-Li Wang, Head and Chair Professor of the Department, delivered a talk titled “Neutron Scattering – A Giant Microscope” at CityU’s BOLD Forum.

Professor Wang demonstrated how neutron scattering, as a giant microscope, helps us to understand the world around us. A neutron carries the speed of a bullet, but its temperature is about the same as our hands. Neutrons can reveal the structure and dynamics of a material. Therefore, neutron scattering is regarded as a powerful method for materials research and technology development.

Neutron scattering is taking root in Hong Kong now. With the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) in Dongguan, it is going to change the scientific landscape in Hong Kong and ultimately lead to improvement in quality of life.
