CityUHK and Sichuan Cancer Hospital sign a strategic cooperation framework agreement

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and Sichuan Cancer Hospital signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement on 17 July to strengthen collaboration in life and health technologies by leveraging the medical and institutional resources of both regions. It will promote the industrialisation of oncology innovations and nurture top talent with international perspectives, thereby propelling the transformation of digital medicine solutions.

Witnessed by Professor Chun-sing Lee, CityUHK Acting President; Mr Deng Zhengquan, Director-General of the Health Commission of Sichuan Province; Dr Leong Che-hung, CityUHK Honorary Doctor of Social Science and Former Chairman of the Hospital Authority; and Dr Leung Pak-yin, CityUHK Court Member and Former Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority;

the agreement was signed by Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, CityUHK Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise) and Professor Lin Tongyu, President of Sichuan Cancer Hospital.

The signing ceremony was one of the activities undertaken during the visit to Hong Kong by a delegation led by Mr Deng Zhengquan. In his remarks, Mr Deng said that this collaboration would further strengthen ties between Hong Kong and Sichuan, while fostering more partnerships among universities and medical institutions in both cities, creating broader synergies in the field of life and health technology.

Professor Lin noted that this partnership would enable the two institutions to jointly address key challenges in oncology by leveraging their combined resources, strengthening talent incubation and data sharing. It will advance the innovative and precision-based diagnostic and treatment solutions for patients in Hong Kong, Sichuan and across the nation.

Dr Leong believed that the agreement between CityUHK and Sichuan Cancer Hospital would bring significant benefits to Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. He stressed that collaboration among national-level institutions, as well as with international organisations, is vital to enhancing healthcare standards and the overall system.

Professor Yang stated that CityUHK is committed to advancing life and health technologies worldwide through collaboration with government, industry, academia, research and investment sectors. This partnership will not only accelerate the translation of research into real-world applications, but also nurture interdisciplinary talent in medicine, innovation and translational science, contributing to the nation's development in life and health technology.

Under the agreement, both parties will establish an innovation platform to facilitate resource sharing between the two regions. By leveraging CityUHK’s strengths and Hong Kong’s international connectivity, together with the Chinese Mainland’s industrial and clinical resources, it will accelerate knowledge transformation and industrialisation in oncology.
