Honours List 2025 Salutes CityUHK Community Members

More than 20 members of CityUHK community are named on the 2025 HKSAR Honours List.

More than 20 members of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) community were named on the 2025 HKSAR Honours List for their outstanding contribution to Hong Kong and their dedicated public and community service.

Dr Colin Lam Ko-yin, CityUHK Court Member, was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS). Dr Lam is a prominent business leader across various sectors in Hong Kong, actively participating in community service and supporting the Government. He has taken significant steps to promote youth development and the welfare of the elderly, including leading his group to donate sites for construction of a large-scale youth hostel under the "Youth Hostel Scheme" and the development of a residential care home for the elderly under the "Special Scheme on Privately Owned Sites for Welfare Uses". These initiatives have created significant benefits for society.

Mr Irons Sze, a CityUHK donor, was also awarded the GBS. Mr Sze is a highly respected business leader.  He has served on the Labour Advisory Board since 2009, helping to forge a consensus on various labour issues between employers and employees while strongly supporting the Government’s labour policies. He is also active in several patriotic organisations, promoting national integration and patriotic values in Hong Kong. His longstanding commitment to public service has earned him widespread respect.

The following three CityUHK donors were awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star:

  • Dr Ko Pui-shuen has dedicated many years to public and community service, particularly in youth education. She has actively supported education development through donations to a number of local universities by setting up scholarships and enhancing learning facilities. She also supports academic research, exhibitions, and the preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage, thereby enriching cultural development in the community.
  • Dr Henry Tan has made outstanding contributions to youth and education development. During his service in a charitable organisation, he led the group to establish a Direct Subsidy Scheme primary school and a community college, and organised exchange activities for clansmen associations to enhance public understanding of national developments. He is also dedicated to nurturing young talent to pursue careers in the fashion and textile industries.
  • Mr Wong Ting-chung has long been committed to community development, particularly in Sha Tin District. He is the Founding Chairman of the Sha Tin District Community Fund, which supports poverty alleviation projects and provides emergency aid in the area. At the onset of the epidemic, he set up a facemask factory and supplied free masks to Sha Tin residents, while donating large quantities of anti-epidemic supplies to both Hong Kong and the mainland, exemplifying a spirit of selflessness.

A CityUHK donor and a faculty member were awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star:

  • Ms Nikki Ng Mien-hua, a CityUHK donor, has devoted many years to community service. She played a pivotal role in supporting the launch of the Government’s first Community Living Room project in Sham Shui Po, which provides diverse facilities and services aimed at improving the quality of life of grassroots families.
  • Professor Kenneth Leung Mei-yee, Associate Dean (Outreach and Internationalisation) of the College of Science, Chair Professor of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health, is an expert in aquatic ecology and environmental toxicology. He has long provided professional advice and recommendations on environmental assessments for numerous major development projects, balancing environmental protection with development needs.

Seven CityUHK members were awarded the Medal of Honour: Council Member Mr Eugene Fong Yick-jin; four donors: Mr Chang Tsong-zungMr Li Pui-leungMr Michael Mok Man-too and Mr Ng Choi-wah; an alumna, Ms Sophia Lee Shuk-woon; and a faculty member, Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research) and Chair Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering.

Donor Mr Angus Chan Lo-chiu and three alumni—Ms Lam Siu-manMs Sylvia Lee Hiu-wah and Ms Yiu Fung—received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service. And three alumni, Mr Chan Cheuk-manMr Kevin Chan Sau-yan and Ms Lam Yuk-sheung, received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Government/Public Service.

Additionally, two donors, Mr Chan Hiu-chun and Dr Steve Chuang Tsz-hsiung, two alumni, Dr Rocky Cheng Chung-ngam and Mr Richard Khaw Wei-kiang, SC, and a faculty member, Professor Zhu Guobin, of the School of Law, were appointed as Justices of the Peace.
