City University of Hong Kong’s (CityUHK) ranking in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, announced in this October, was recently adjusted, climbing to a record 73rd from the original 75th position — up five places from 78th last year.
CityUHK continues to lead in two key areas, ranking first globally for “Industry” and first in Hong Kong for “International Outlook”, underscoring its excellence in industrial collaboration and global partnerships.
THE World University Rankings 2026 evaluated 2,191 universities across 115 countries or territories, reflecting an increasingly competitive landscape. The rankings use 18 indicators to assess performance across five major pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry.
CityUHK has earned a perfect score in the Industry pillar for three consecutive years, maintaining its position as the top university globally in this category. At the same time, CityUHK has achieved remarkable results in promoting internationalisation, maintaining the top position in Hong Kong for the International Outlook indicator for eight consecutive years, and being named the “Most International University in the World” by THE for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2025, demonstrating the prominent results of its global strategy. In addition, the University has shown steady progress in indicators including "Teaching" and "Research Environment," reflecting CityUHK's commitment to building cutting-edge research and high-quality teaching environments.
CityUHK is also the second university in Hong Kong to be placed in the top 100 in all four major international university rankings, including:
- Ranked 63rd in the 2026 QS World University Rankings and 7th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026;
- Ranked 54th in the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings, marking a significant rise; and
- Entered the top 100 for the first time in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, placing 99th globally and second in Hong Kong, becoming the second university in Hong Kong to reach the top 100 since the ranking’s establishment in 2003.
